Take one of your old empty 2 liter soft drink plastic bottles.
Take off the plastic label...make sure it's ALL off.
Fill about 1/3 or 1/2 full with water.
Drop a couple drops of food coloring in.

You can do a few bottles, using different colors in each bottle.
You can put some vegetable oil in the water too, to make a low tech 'lava' lamp type effect. You could put glitter, old buttons, shells, whatever you think will make it more interesting.

Put glue on the threads of the bottle top.
Screw on plastic bottle top as tightly as you possibly can.
For extra security, you can also put tape around the bottle top.

Young kids are fascinated by this...even crawlers will have fun rolling the bottles and seeing the different effects. You can work with your child in naming all the objects you see in the bottle, and he can also learn his colors with this.

Maybe you can think of some other ideas!
