Take any kind of packaging box that has a nice bright picture...cereal box, Cheez It box, Saltine crackers....and cut out one side of it so you only have a rectangle. Cut that rectangle into shapes - just straight lines will do...forming squares, triangles, smaller rectangles. You want to cut for level of difficulty.
For a young child, you want to cut the box into only 4-5 shapes, for example. To make the puzzle more difficult, then cut into more shapes.
This can be a nice puzzle for a trip, camping, etc...just put each puzzle into a ziploc bag...and who cares if your child loses the puzzle on the trip? LOL
