How do you get people to sign up on your e-mail list? Part of my problem is that my site is new, so people don't even see it on their search engines yet unless they type in my business name? Is there a way to get people to sign up for your mailings or to direct them to my site??

Jody:
When I do fairs, etc. I have a prize drawing on which I specifically ask for an email address to add to my mailing list (that way they are "opting in" and won't immediately consider my emails spam). I also ask all of my customers if they would like to be added to my emai list for specials, etc. Make sure your website is prominently displayed on all of your offline advertising. I saw that you mentioned your mailing list on your website, but there doesn't seem to be a link to click on. Perhaps you can include a signup box?

Hi Mary!
That does help. A few questions...
When you say offline advertising, what do you mean? Right now everything I've done is online. I'm going to be putting a few fliers around town, but I don't think they are my primary audience.
Also, when you say you didn't see a link, were you referring to the forums or did you look at my site. On my site at the top where all the buttons are is a link for Mailing List. Did you try clicking there or would you recommend me also putting a sign-up box on the home page?
Thanks!

Jody,
I still run contests to get new subscribers. I sell scrapbook supplies, so I offer either a free album, or a free scrapbook kit. I post the rules and then submit the contest to contest sites.
July/August I'm running a refer a friend contest. Refer a friend who stays subscribed for at least two months and you are entered to win.
online-sweepstakes.com brought me the most new subscribers last time I ran a contest.
You can also offer something else free, such as a free ebook. I have a 6 series ecourse I offer free when folks subscribe.
Those are the ideas that have worked for me.
Audrey :)
