Hot trend seems to be going on... what are your thoughts? Would you do this? Why or why not?

NEVER! Not in a million years.

The fact is - you STILL have to learn to say no to foods that aren't good for you and even moreso when you have gastric bypass so why not just be mature and learn when enough is enough without going through such a risky procedure? I myself have weight to lose but I can tell you this - I will never go under the knife to correct my problem.

I will lose it - it just won't be quite so dramatic.

I think it's a personal decision and I don't down anyone that does it - I just personally think it's totally wrong for me. I have weighed the pros and the cons and for me - the cons are just too much! With all the successes we see in Hollywood we forget that there can be MANY complications and even death with this procedure.

Well, would hope that I would never get to the point where I felt like that was the only option, but I can understand why people have it done.

My cousin who is in her early 40's had this done a couple of years ago, I would have never thought she was a candidate for it. She was over wieght, but to me she didn't look that over weight. She has some medical conditions like Fibromylasia (sp?) and was in a lot of pain and the weight made it worse for her, I am not sure how many pounds she ended up losing, but she seems to be doing great now and doesn't have the same pains as she had before.

When people have gotten so large that they can't even move to excersise then maybe this is a better option than completly giving up.

I would never have this done either. I think its something you can help yourself with, watch what you eat, exercise and it will make a difference.

There is too much emphasis today put on about how people look. Not how they feel but how they look and everyone wants to be thin. I think its wrong, you are the way you are, as long as you are healthy and happy is all that matters. Some people who have this surgery done are worse for it afterwards and are sorry they had it done.

I will stay the way I am, I am in no hurry to look like a movie star. lol

Though personally I would be afraid of medical complications from such a drastic medical intervention, I do believe there are individuals out there who benefit greatly from this procedure. Without it, surely the severe obesity will kill them or drastically shorten their life span.

I have a friend who has lost 95 pounds in her "health recovery" journey. She still has 50-60 more lbs to go. I know for her, this surgery has given her a new lease on life.

I worry more about "skinny" people "needing" procedures like liposuction to alter their appearance in millimeters that will never be noticed by anyone other than them.

My 2 cents on a hot topic~

I have been overweight almost my whole adult life. Once I got pregnant with my first child I just seemed to add on with each pregnancy. I have thought about gastric bypass but to me in my opinion that is a way of cheating. i have seen people have this surgery done then loose alot of weight then two years later start gaining weight again. I am embarrassed to admit I weigh over two hundred pounds. I am considered obese. When I quit smoking the weight really piled on and I just didnt care. When I couldnt fit into my jeans I wore sweats BIG DOWNFALL lol I know now never wear sweats lol. I think a few people should have the surgery to save thier lives but alot of people have it to loose weight quickly. I would rather work and exercise to loose it and keep it off than have to worry about the side effects of the surgery. Doesn't take long to put the pounds on but it takes a lifetime to get them back off lol.

I dont know if I would or not depending on the situation I just hope and pray Im never in the situation I need to.

I know several people who have done it. and well it totally screwed them up emotionally and psycologically. So that aspect alot of people dont concider when thinking about it.

BUT to each their own I dont/wont judge what others do Ok maybe a little in my head but I keep opinions to myself :)

I wouldn't personally have it done, but I understand why people sometimes choose it.

I would never do this in a milion years!! Ever- my sister -in -law had this done. Although I tried very hard to talk her out of it, she was bound & determined to lose weight. She has health issues & Dr's suggested she have this done. She was at over 300 lbs before she had this done & is now down to 176 lbs. I think the problem would be trying to stablize your weight once you get down to the desired weight. To me it's like starving yourself- I'm sure God did not intend for us to starve ourselves in this manner. My aunt has also had this done, due to health problems. I believe that if people watch what they eat & how much of what they eat, we wouldn't have the weight problems we have in America today. I don't agree with it & I don't like it. You would certainly think that there would be other ways that are better than this to lose weight. Exercise & diet certainly help a lot. God Bless- And yes, Tonja I certainly agree with you. :D
