You know Darla - that could very well be a possibility! If that were the case, that's extremely rude to do that to the consultant & yes, I have had a Hostess book a party- through HOL years ago, HOL was a Christian Direct Sales Company- So obviously some of our products were along the line of Christmas items & christian items- This ladies husband, got me aside after every one else left the room & tried to disuade me from being in the Direct Sales business & and had I made the right choice being in direct sales, etc
They are Jehovah wittnesses- which I did not know- Needless to say, I grinned & bared it & went on.

I think you may be correct. The hostess may have had a catalog with consultant sign-up info and thought wow if I sign up I can place all of the orders myself and pocket the commission.

Was the hostess in on this? I would have loved to tell the hostess to eat the $800 herself. Maybe they would try some other form of entertainment the next time around.

Ouch! That is a bad deal all around. I would have told the hostess that the guests had to call me personally. I will not cancel orders without their consent first. $800!!!! Oh heck no! With that kind of party the hostess herself would have racked up $115 in freebies plus, the option of a $300 or $500 special (heck both for her sales) and a hostess exclusive item. Not to mention if she had over 10 buying guests an item at 65% off or more (depending on the # orders taken!)
There would be NO WAY I would eat those kind of losses. (especially when my hostess rewards are company paid!)
Your friend should do what someone else stated ... sell those products off and make her money back. Plus, in the future let people know she is NOT entertainment for them.
Was that their idea of entertainment to put someone in debt! Oooh that makes me so upset! I feel for your friend. I would tell her not to give up she just got in the wrong crowd. How sad that people are really like that. mmm mmm mmm... I am at a loss of words (because I am being polite here! lol)

Send her my love and a BIG hug! Tell her to keep her chin up!

That is crazy! I can't believe people would be so mean and do something like that! I definitely wouldn't go back to that hostess ever again!
