I'm a writer first and foremost but I do take photographs to go with my stories a lot. I am not all that good at it though! My equipment is rather inferior as well but then again I'm not as interested in that side of it.
Have you gotten your business going yet? If you haven't maybe if you know someone with some kids, ask if you can photograph them for free so you can build a portfolio. Children look beautiful photographed in black and white. Landscape photography is beautiful too, in color of course.
