Lightbulb Coyote Problem in Southern California

Even before the recent wildfires, we have been sharing our neighborhoods with wildlife of all sorts, including but certainly not limited to coyotes. Many of us have seen them - or at least heard them - as they hunt for our small pets after giving up on finding any rabbits or whatever else God designed them to eat.

After a couple of inept pups tried to eat my cat for breakfast (they failed but it cost me more than I could afford) I discovered a site called CoyoteBytes maintained by the University of California system to track and monitor the coyote activity in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego Counties. (It will be expanded to all of California at a future date.)

If you live in one of these counties, you can help make the data more complete by adding any incidents you are aware of to the database at the CoyoteBytes site.

If you live elsewhere in California, bookmark it and check back later to see if your area has been added.

We have a few around in our area to in this town. They mostly are in the outer city limits though. Some nights you can hear them howling.
