Re: How do they make their money???
Hmm...very interesting .
I have to agree with you ladies, I have long stopped giving anyone ANY info if I cannot see who the company is upfront. I remember looking at some biz info online, and having to go dig around to see "WHAT IS THEIR PRODUCT?? WHAT ARE THEY SELLING??". Well, it was one fo the "moms", and I finally gave into my nosiness. I immediately got a recruiting call from two ladies, and even here I had to keep asking "Who are you working for?? WHAT are you selling?". Needless to say, this conversation went no where, I was very perturbed for wasting my time. First of all, not my product, second, a zillion consultants in my area!! i recommend trust your instinct, then do the research.
Any biz ad that says "no work, no fee, no ETC", well, I have not seen one person make real money with "no nothing", otherwise we would all be doing it, right ladies?? Seriously, working from home is hard work, much harder than going to a job in the morning and just doing your job, fully concentrated on one task. Here, you are a constant multi-tasker, and anyone who says I can work from home and make money the side "while leading my everyday life" does not understand that I NEED TO MAKE MONEY!! MY KIDS NEED FOOD!
It is sad, because all the people selling this b******t make it very hard for us that are in a legitimate business to build our clientele and teams. Unfortunately, people have been burned so many time .
aren't you glad you asked???

Re: How do they make their money???
Wow, didn't that conversation get heated! As for me, I'm a marketing executive for Melaleuca, and there are definitely both sides to every story. There is definitely no hype with this company, it is what it is. You buy products at the grocery store anyway. The fact that there's complete 100% money back guarantee, and absolutely no chemicals sounded great to me. If you look at the statistics, the air in our homes is 7-70% more toxic than outside and we spend 90% of our time inside! Housewives have a 54% higher chance of getting cancer than those who work outside the home. The #1 killer of children in the home is dishwasher detergent. With Melaleuca products, they can drink it and besides GI upset, poison control will tell you not to worry. The products have also gotten rid of my son's excema. Any scams out there wouldn't put as much time and effort into their product, they claim they have a "miracle" product that will fix anything. My parents were also involved with Amway, and they get their money mostly by selling sales aids and holding hyped meetings. Anyway, just had to put my 2 cents worth in, because I do believe in the product. There is a "selling" of the idea of switching stores and there is definitely no inventory which is great. I love the idea that they deal with the company, I was with other direct sales, and had to deal with paying shipping charges for returns myself, etc. I don't know the problem about being able to receive commission on other people's products, because when you buy from the grocery store, that money goes to the company that made it for advertising and distributing anyway. (By the way watch the commercials on TV, you are paying for them!) The founder of Melaleuca wanted to take that money from large companies and put it back into their people and their product. It is strange for a founder of a company to have ethics these days and I think that's a lot of the problem. There is a lot of skepticism which is understandable. They have a website now available, www.saferforyourhome.com which tells you about the cleaning product, and yes, it has the name of it on there!! You have to get the details from a marketing executive for enrolling and how you get paid though, since there is a lot of info and questions.
As for the back up order, as a business builder I want to receive my cheque every month and in order to be a preferred customer you do have to order 35 product points every month to get discounts and discounted services. The money I save every month on my long distance alone pays for my order every month. (not joking, I can show you my records.) Nobody buys a membership with Melaleuca without knowing about the back up order and they can still get their money back since there is a 60 day empty bottle guarantee on every product anyway. So, seriously you can't lose money. Melaleca takes it quite serious if they find out people had been enrolled without the backup orer explained clearly. There was a letter sent out because it was a concern and any marketing executive will be terminated who does this. There are previous MLM people coming in and enrolling in Melaleuca thinking they can make big bucks quick. Definitely not, and they don't last long, because this is a company of hard work, what legit company isn't!
Whew! I didn't mean to rattle off like that, but had to stick up for it! :-) Check out my website, http://www.stuffafriend.com/shop.php?JenKaulback for a seriously no membership fee, no sign up cost, no minimum orders and no quotas. Plus they are adorable! I just signed, so I'm anxiously waiting for my animals!!
Take care everyone!!

Re: How do they make their money???
Hi Ladies,
I know of the company you are talking about because I am a part of it and enjoy it very much, however I truly feel the major part of the problem is how people are marketing. It's fine to go out and put your name out there, it is another to continually keep it going with one "mom" ad right after another on the same site over and over. People can do whatever they want, but I don't think they realize it gets to the point where people are just sick of seeing it.
Just my 2 cents

Re: How do they make their money???
I used to be a skeptic of this company and then I decided to take it a step further and I investigated it.I saw nothing wrong with the company at all. They have outstanding credentials and have a guarantee on there products. So I decided to purchase there products, and the fact is there are some people out there that are dishonest and do not tell you everything up front.I work with a group of amazing people and you really do not spend what you do not need to.You have to find value in the products before you can even consider building a buisness. That goes with any company.I feel better knowing that I have created a safer enviroment for my family and myself.Anyone that I will enroll will know all the facts and want to be a customer first and then after finding value in the products then they can build a buisness if they desire so.Yes there are Marketing Executives out there that do not tell all the information about the company and the purchase requirement.I do not believe in that,I believe that in revealing all information and from that point on allow the person to make an informed decision. As far as building a buisness and how we make our money is that we are simply referring people to the company, and we help them set up there accounts and we recieve a percentage of there order.I like the fact that I do not have unneccessary inventory in my home and I do not have to make deliveries. The buisness isn't for everyone, but I truly believe that the products are.

Re: How do they make their money???
HI! Very interesting conversation!! I also am a part of this incredible company, Melaleuca Inc. I think the majority of us were extreme skeptics before we researched it out and tried it ourselves. Any good business the products have to sell themselves. These products are incredible and the best part is we are already spending the money anyway! An independant survey was done in the USA and the average American family currently spends $120 a month on the same type of products we manufacture and produce. Therefore when I introduce someone into this company and show them that by switching a PORTION of their current spending over to Melaleuca...replacement shopping...and sure unless they cancel their membership they agree to purchase a minimum amount every month...approx. $55 USD a month...then I know I'm helping that family. They are not adding more spending into their budget they are simply spending the same amount at a different store. WHY? The products. They are safer, more cost effective and work incredible. So much of our focus today is about wellness...and it should be. Jennifer is right, it starts in our homes...the air we breathe, the products used to clean our dishes, our clothing, our bathrooms.

Re: How do they make their money???
Wow Ladies! Sounds like there's some serious dicussions going on here- I am very Happy that I am a Designer for Home & Garden Party- WE are a party plan company & I am always honest with anyone who wants to know any information about HGP. I don't like MLM businesses either. With HGP you do have to pay an upfront fee for the kit-this is a one time only fee- you have the option of choosing from 4 kits-however, we still have to hold In-Home/catalog parties, Fundraisers, etc to earn our 30-40% commision. WE do not stock inventory, there's no delivery(all parties are shipped to the hostess) and there are no sales quotas per month for you to sell.As others have stated - I Love to show HGP products and HGP is an Honest, legal inten***y & we are listed with the DSA. I hope this clears up some of the confusion about mlm & party plan businesses. Any questions ????Visit my website at www.ywave.com/~zelmyrs/

Re: How do they make their money???
First of all let me begin by thanking you lyndh. There are many reasons why people do not give the information away in the copy. First and foremost there are people out there that pray on the the affiliates...IE stealing their links ,bypassing their links and so forth.
Second there are ways, perfectly legal ways to make plenty of money on the internet without selling, drop shipping,or any other type of sales for that matter. You see the internet has and is changing everyday...bringing with it the opportunity to make money just by cashing in on the spike!
You see whats for sale isn't always something that you can see or put your hands on....IE The 14 year old millionare that has made all of her money on GIVING AWAY wallpaper for Myspace.
You really just have to dig a little deeper in your search of what you want to use the internet for in this age of Social Bookmarking. This is the wave of the future and it can be done completely Free! You and anyone else that figures out how to work with the system and give people what they really want,Is going to win in the long run.
You see this whole thing is about relationships as with any thing in life. Sometimes it does take a little digging to find something that really works.
But I can tell you IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE MONEY ON THE NET WITH ZERO.
You do have to have a computer though,Ad this is not some quick overnight get rich scam....It is a real business...that you do have to spend som time working for your success.
Aloha,
Much Success
