i need ideas please

i live on a very busy corner. one street goes to the school, one street goes to the 'good neigborhood' i have a fence on both sides and would really really like to put some type of advertising on the fences for the school parents to see, and for the working people to see. i am thinking just putting up my website 'mainstreetcalif.com' and have that be the starting place if they go online to my other stuff.

and i am also thinking of doing before and after school day care, but have no clue on what to charge. any help would be groovy

Hi Eileen, Sounds like you have some wonderful ideas! I'm sure that there must be somewhere that you can buy a banner & have your website address put on the banner for advertisement.Maybe have one on each side of the fence on the street sides. I know here that you have to go through so many courses & some training before you can open a daycare business up here. Have you contacted the State in regards to these issues? Usually they are listed in the front of your phone book- such as yellowbook etc. for your area. Best wishes on your business ventures!!

another quick thought... check with your city to see what their laws/stipulations are on putting up signs. I know that here where I live it is not legal and you can be fined.. even though a TON of people do it. You just want to make sure you are doing everything right.

That is what I was just thinking, I know here you cant have a big sign if you own a home business infront of your home. your not allowed to do anything that brings additional traffic to your neighborhood. For me personally its nothing more then a few extra drop offs by the UPS man. But then again we arent allowed to advertise our home address we can only use a PO box. So yea I would check with your city to see what the rules are.

the house i live in is zone commercial. it used to be a dr's office, and across the street is a church, the street in front of the house is an official highway. so i would not be attracting any more traffic than the 20,000 cars that go by my house everyday.

and the signs would be on the 3 ft fence and not blocking traffic, so there would be no issue there.

As far as starting a daycare, I'd check to see what the requirements are for it first, then do a little bit of research to see what other day care centers in your area charge. Then, based on that information, develop rates that are either close to the going rate or under the going rate.

I know that where I live, if you watch under 3 children at a time, you don't have to be licensed, but more than that, and you do. There are also space requirements for your home.
