Default Work @ Home Tip

Even though a great benefit of working at home is flexibility of your schedule, still choose a set time to work everyday and set an alarm as if you are leaving the house to work. This way you don't get lazy and fall behind since that is so easy to do when working at home.

The biggest mistake I made was trying to learn so much about my new business. I printed off so much information that it overwhelmed me! I didn't even know where to begin to file things.
If a lot of your information is online, leave it there, as you can always come back and read up on it anytime. Just get the basics, and go from there. Be aware of information overload as it becomes an excuse to why you aren't accomplishing anything.

The one thing I found that helps the most is staying organized. This means your schedule, your workspace, your computer files, everything. Without organization alot of time can be wasted just looking for things that you need or trying to fit something into your schedule that you didnt account for. I have an appt book that I mark everything in. I Have my workspace divided into activities and jobs and I schedule in time every week to reorganize it. I also have a four drawer file cabinet that has files for each job and each activity. I dedicated one whole room to my work at home have a table for putting things together and another one for storing them. Once I started doing this things just moved much more smoothly for me and I didnt feel so overwhelmed.

I found a free phone number online atPrivatephone - Free Private Phone Number and Online Voicemail by NetZero and I use that for my online business number. The phone message goes right to my email and I can listen to it when I am working at my desk. This prevents spam callers also. It helps me not to spend time on the phone with time wasters. You could also put it on your business card. Limiting phone hours will save you time.

My tip is:

Break your work day up into increments. Instead of the traditional work 2 hours, take a 15 min break , I suggest taking a small 5-10 min break every hour, if needed or just to break the monotony. This has helped me.

I find the best way to stay on task while working at home is to also stay fit and healthy. I take my son to school first thing in the morning and then before I work, I work out. I go for a walk or a bike ride or run. It makes me feel energized the rest of the day and I feel like I have done something for myself.
