Default Stained Glass Window Cookies

Looking for a fun holiday recipe you can do with your kids? Try our Stained Glass Window cookies! They’re great for holiday parties and for decorating your house!

Let me know how they turn out!

Stained Glass Windows

Cooking Time:
Bake 7 to 9 minutes

Gingerbread Cookie Dough

Ingredients:
6 tbsp. butter or margarine (3/4 stick), softened
1/2 cup C&H Pure Cane Golden Brown Sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1/2 cup wheat germ, toasted
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1-1/3 cup flour, all-purpose

Instructions:
In large bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg. Combine remaining ingredients; stir into sugar mixture. Chill. On lightly floured surface, roll out half the dough at a time to 1/8-inch thickness. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease cookie sheet. Cut dough into fanciful shapes with 2 1/2 to 3-inch cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheet. With sharp knife, cut out centers (to be filled later with candy syrup) leaving borders intact. Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until lightly browned at edges. Cool 5 minutes; transfer to rack to cool completely. Place cookies on generously greased cookie sheet. Slip a piece of thread through the cutout of each cookie to act as hanger later.

Candy Syrup

Ingredients

1-1/2 cups C&H Pure Cane Granulated Sugar
3/4 cup corn syrup, light
6 tbsp. water
1/4 tsp. almond extract
food coloring, liquid

Instructions:
For syrup, warm 3 or 4 ovenproof glass measuring cups in 250° F oven. In small saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup and water. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. Cook without stirring until syrup reaches 290° F (hard crack stage) on candy thermometer. Reduce heat to very low and stir in extract. Working quickly pour 1/4 of syrup into a warmed cup. Tint with food color as desired. Hold cup with potholder and pour syrup in a thin stream to fill cookie cutouts. Repeat with remaining syrup, tinting it other colors in other cups. Let cool to harden. Gently twist cookie sheet to remove cookies.

HINTS: In humid weather these decorations may drip slightly, so place cotton "snow" or a cloth beneath the tree.

Serving Size:
4 dozen
